Hennessee hedge fund group hit by ex-employee suit

Reuters – A prominent hedge fund consulting group being sued by former clients for having led them into the collapsed Bayou Group fund is now being sued by a former top executive, legal documentsshow.

Leeana Piscopo filed a lawsuit in the Supreme Court of the State of New York on Wednesday alleging the Hennessee Group and its owner, Lee Hennessee, fired her from her position as chief compliance officer in January after learning that she is pregnant. Reuters obtained a copy of the suit on Thursday.

Hennessee owns the firm with her husband Charles Gradante and Piscopo has a 1.5 percent equity interest in the Hennessee Group, according to the court papers.

Gradante called the matter an “employee lawsuit” and said he could not comment on it because he had not seen it.

“This is a gender discrimination suit and we are looking for multiple six figures in damages,” Piscopo’s lawyer Saul Zabell told Reuters in a telephone interview.
