Merkel to focus on transparency of hedge funds for G8 presidency

Forbes – German Chancellor Angela Merkel said she intends to focus on the transparency of capital markets, including hedge funds during Berlin’s presidency of the Group of Eight (G8) countries in2007.

Germany has called for hedge funds — which manage some 1.3 trln usd in assets worldwide — to make more information available to help increase the stability of the international financial system.

‘The G8 is not a decision-making body but when the G8 states are in agreement then there can of course be an important international impetus (for action),’ Merkel told foreign journalists in Berlin.
