When a fund manager is running a long-only fund alongside a hedge fund the temptation is absolutely obvious.\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00e2\u201e\u00a2<\/p>\n<p>  Duffield was speaking at an investment conference in Monaco this week. He said long-only fund managers who are given hedge funds to run must be watched \u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00cb\u0153like a hawk\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00e2\u201e\u00a2 to ensure that no conflicts of  interest arise between the two funds.<\/p>\n<p>  A number of managers at New Star run long-only funds as well as hedge funds although there is no suggestion of impropriety on their part. These include AAA-rated Guy de Blonay, who runs New Star  Global Financials <a href=\"http:\/\/www.citywire.co.uk\/Funds\/FundFactsheet.aspx?FundID=24053\">(New Star Global Financial Ret)<\/a> and its Financials hedge fund.
