{"id":4674,"date":"2006-07-03T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2006-07-03T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"-0001-11-30T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"-0001-11-30T04:00:00","slug":"hedge-fund-plots-to-sack-platinum-boss","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staging.hedgeco.net\/news\/07\/2006\/hedge-fund-plots-to-sack-platinum-boss.html","title":{"rendered":"Hedge fund plots to sack platinum boss"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Sunday Times &#8211; AN American hedge fund has launched a ferocious attack on the chairman of African Platinum (Afplats), the AIM-listed mining company, sparking an international row.<\/p>\n<p>  North Sands, based in Connecticut, has in the past two weeks built up a 10% stake in Afplats and then, without prior word to the company, called an emergency meeting to remove Charles Hansard, its  chairman.<\/p>\n<table cellspacing=\"0\" cellpadding=\"0\" border=\"0\" align=\"right\">\n<tr>\n<td>    <\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr align=\"right\">\n<td align=\"right\">      NI_MPU(&#8216;middle&#8217;);    <\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/table>\n<p>In a statement, Thomas McAuley, head of North Sands, said: \u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00c5\u201cIn our view, Mr Hansard does not have the industry credentials and relevant experience to maximise shareholder value.\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00c2\u009d<\/p>\n<p>  Another investor said: \u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00c5\u201cSome of the shareholders think the chairman is arrogant.
