{"id":4548,"date":"2006-06-07T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2006-06-07T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"-0001-11-30T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"-0001-11-30T04:00:00","slug":"atticus-hedge-fund-likes-mastercard","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staging.hedgeco.net\/news\/06\/2006\/atticus-hedge-fund-likes-mastercard.html","title":{"rendered":"Atticus Hedge Fund Likes MasterCard"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"default\">TheStreet.com &#8211; Hedge fund <strong>Atticus Management<\/strong> is shifting its attention to credit cards and airplanes.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>  <span class=\"default\">The $12 billion fund led by Timothy Barakett disclosed Monday that it has acquired 5.1% equity stakes in both <strong>MasterCard<\/strong> (<a href=  \"http:\/\/tools.thestreet.com\/tsc\/quotes.html?pg=qcn&amp;symb=MA\">MA<\/a>:NYSE &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/find.thestreet.com\/cgi-bin\/texis\/find\/results.html?tkr=MA\">commentary<\/a> &#8211; <a href=  \"http:\/\/thestreet.investor.reuters.com\/reports.aspx?ticker=MA\" target=\"_blank\">research<\/a> &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/find.thestreet.com\/cgi-bin\/texis\/cramertake?tkr=MA&amp;site=tsc\">Cramer&#8217;s Take<\/a>) and  Mexican airport management company <strong>Grupo Aeroportuario<\/strong> (<a href=\"http:\/\/tools.thestreet.com\/tsc\/quotes.html?pg=qcn&amp;symb=PAC\">PAC<\/a>:NYSE &#8211; <a href=  \"http:\/\/find.thestreet.com\/cgi-bin\/texis\/find\/results.html?tkr=PAC\">commentary<\/a> &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/thestreet.investor.reuters.com\/reports.aspx?ticker=PAC\" target=\"_blank\">research<\/a> &#8211; <a href=  \"http:\/\/find.thestreet.com\/cgi-bin\/texis\/cramertake?tkr=PAC&amp;site=tsc\">Cramer&#8217;s Take<\/a>), also known as Pacific Airport Group. On the basis of today&#8217;s share prices, Atticus&#8217; stake in MasterCard  is valued at $200 million, and its holding in Pacific Airport is worth $76 million.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>  <span class=\"default\">Atticus, which manages six different funds, has made a strategy out of buying significant equity stakes in companies that either are in a hot sector, are ripe for a rebound or  are potential acquisition targets.
